A beautiful wedding at one of Kent’s most stunning wedding venues

After what feels like a particularly hectic few weeks of photographing weddings, editing galleries and appearing at wedding fayres, it was definitely about time I shared another real wedding on the blog!

This time, it’s the turn of Claire and Aaron, who tied the knot at the stunning Danson House in Danson Park, Kent.

With its beautiful historic architecture, elegant interiors and the surrounding parkland, Danson House provides an incredible backdrop for wedding photography. It’s one of those venues where you really don’t have to look very far to find opportunities for creative wedding photography and some seriously gorgeous images.

And, of course, Claire and Aaron’s wedding gave me plenty to work with.

Every wedding has its own personality, and that’s one of the things I love most about photographing them.

Rather than trying to make every wedding look the same, I want your photographs to actually feel like your wedding. The laughter, the nerves, the ridiculous moments, the hugs, the dancing and all the little things that happen in between the planned photographs.

Claire and Aaron's day at Danson House was a brilliant example of why I love photographing weddings.

Alongside the more traditional wedding photographs, I was looking for those little moments that tell the story of their day — the expressions, interactions and moments that you might not even realise were happening until you see them afterwards.

Those are often the photographs that become the favourites.

Creative wedding photography at Danson House

When I photograph a wedding, I want to create more than a collection of photographs that simply document who was standing where.

I’m looking for unique wedding photos that have a bit of personality.

That might mean using the architecture of Danson House to create something dramatic, taking advantage of the surrounding parkland, finding interesting light or simply giving you some direction and then letting you forget I'm there.

And yes, sometimes that involves me telling you to do something slightly ridiculous.

But that's kind of the point.

The best photographs often happen when you stop worrying about whether you're "posing correctly" and actually enjoy yourselves.

Making your wedding photos feel natural

One of the questions I get asked regularly is:

"How do we make sure our wedding photographs don't look awkward or staged?"

My answer is simple — don't worry about posing.

I'll give you direction when you need it, but I don't want you spending your wedding day standing around like you're having your passport photograph taken.

Instead, I'll encourage you to interact with each other, have a laugh and actually enjoy the moment.

My job is to make sure you're having fun while I'm quietly (or sometimes not so quietly) photographing it.

Why I love photographing weddings like this

After around 16 years of photographing weddings, I've learnt that the couples who get the most from their photography aren't necessarily the ones who are naturally comfortable in front of a camera.

They're the ones who are willing to trust their photographer, have a laugh and embrace the fact that there will inevitably be a bloke with a camera following them around for most of the day.

I'm not particularly interested in turning your wedding into a glossy fashion shoot.

I want to photograph you.

The real you.

The laughs, the chaos, the dodgy dancing, the happy tears, the questionable dancefloor decisions and all the moments you'll want to remember years from now.

Danson House is a fantastic location for couples looking for something a little different from the traditional wedding venue.

The combination of the historic house, beautiful surroundings and plenty of opportunities for creative photography makes it a brilliant setting for wedding photographs.
