Julia & Paul’s Twilight Wedding at Friern ManorA Twilight Wedding Full of Fun, Family and Plenty of Banter By the time Julia and Paul’s wedding at Friern Manor came around, the wedding season was already flying by — and my diary was absolutely rammed. But there was no slowing down for this one. Julia and Paul chose to celebrate their wedding surrounded by their closest friends and family, and from the moment I arrived, it was pretty obvious that this was going to be one of those weddings where the atmosphere would do half the work for me. There were huge smiles, plenty of laughter, a fair amount of banter and, thankfully, two people who weren't afraid to have a bit of fun in front of the camera. Which, let's be honest, is exactly what I want. As an Essex wedding photographer, I’m always looking for those moments that happen naturally rather than trying to manufacture them. The little interactions, ridiculous laughs, knowing looks between couples and guests — those are often the photographs that bring a wedding day straight back to life. And Julia and Paul’s wedding had them in abundance. Twilight weddings can be particularly brilliant for creative wedding photography because the changing light gives you so many options as the day progresses. Earlier in the day, we can concentrate on capturing the excitement, emotions and candid moments as everything unfolds. Then, as the light begins to change, we can start creating something a little more dramatic. That’s where I get particularly excited. I love using light creatively rather than simply accepting whatever the weather happens to throw at us. Whether that's dramatic flash photography, evening portraits or something completely unexpected, the aim is always the same — create unique wedding photos that actually look and feel like you. Making the Most of Your Wedding Photography One of my biggest tips for couples is simple: Don't spend your entire wedding day worrying about your photographs. Enjoy yourselves. Seriously. Your photographer should be able to work around you rather than making you spend hours standing around awkwardly posing. For the couples I photograph, I’ll give you enough direction to make sure we create some seriously good photographs, but I also want you to interact, laugh, chat and generally behave like yourselves. If that means a bit of ridiculousness creeps into the photographs, even better. Julia and Paul certainly weren't short of personality, and that helped make their photographs feel natural, relaxed and full of life. The Importance of Choosing the Right Wedding Photographer When you're looking for your wedding photographer, don't just look at whether you like their photographs. Look at how they photograph people. Do the couples look comfortable? Do the photographs feel natural? Is there variety in the gallery? Do you see genuine moments alongside the more creative portraits? And, perhaps most importantly, can you imagine spending a large part of your wedding day with that person? Your photographer will be around you for a surprisingly large amount of your wedding day, so personality matters. You don't want someone who makes you feel like you're attending a photoshoot. You want someone who can blend into the day, have a laugh with you and your guests, keep things relaxed and still produce photographs that you're going to want hanging on your walls. That's the approach I try to bring to every wedding. Sneaky Peeks from Julia & Paul’s Friern Manor Wedding Julia and Paul’s wedding was exactly the sort of wedding I love photographing — relaxed, fun, full of personality and surrounded by people who were clearly there to celebrate with them. And yes, there was banter. Lots of it. I would love to say I held back. I didn't. The photographs speak for themselves, though. Huge smiles, genuine happiness and plenty of those little moments that make a wedding gallery personal to the couple rather than simply a collection of standard wedding photographs. These are the photographs I love creating. Not just photographs showing what happened. Photographs that remind you how it felt. Essex Wedding Photography at Friern Manor If you're planning your own wedding at Friern Manor, or you're looking for a creative Essex wedding photographer who will bring a relaxed approach, plenty of personality and hopefully a questionable amount of sarcasm to your wedding day, I'd love to hear from you. Whether you're planning a traditional wedding, an intimate celebration or a twilight wedding like Julia and Paul, I'll work with you to create a collection of creative and unique wedding photos that genuinely feel like you. After around 16 years of photographing weddings, I've learnt that the best photographs often happen when couples stop worrying about the camera and simply enjoy themselves. So that's exactly what I want you to do. I'll worry about the photographs. You concentrate on having an absolutely brilliant wedding. Looking for a Wedding Photographer at Friern Manor? If you're currently searching for an Essex wedding photographer, I'd love to chat about your plans. And if you want to see more of the weddings, ridiculousness and behind-the-scenes nonsense that happens when I'm holding a camera, come and find me on social media too. Dale Zimmermann Photography — creative wedding photography, plenty of banter and absolutely no promises of behaving myself!
